Hoping to edit RAW photos on your mobile device while travelling?

Uh oh.

If you are planning to use Snapseed, make sure the raw photo and the device are both supported by Snapseed.

Snapseed RAW compatibility on Android

According to Snapseed:

Android Snapseed will edit DNG RAW files on any device that can capture DNG, and on most other recent devices

Personally, I have struggled to get Snapseed to open RAW photos on older devices. If Snapseed does not open RAW files on your Android device, then try the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom app.

Snapseed RAW compatibility on iOS

Ironically, given that you can't currently take RAW photos on iOS, Snapseed has much better support for RAW photos on Apple devices.

Not only will Snapseed open .DNG (an open source RAW standard) files on any iOS device, but it will also handle the native RAW files created by many DSLR cameras:

Snapseed will open RAW files produced by the following Canon cameras (files with a .CRW or .CR2 extension):

  • Canon EOS 1D Mark III & IV
